These instruments can be regarded as the ancestors of the modern-day flute. The flute is one of the oldest musical instruments prevalent in India and is an integral component of Indian classical music. The classic Sanskrit text on music and performance arts Natya Shastra (~200 BCE to 200 CE) finds mention of the Flute in great length. The flute (Venu) finds great depiction in Indian mythology and folklore, the venu is identified with the Hindu god Krishna, who is often portrayed playing Flute.

 A flute is a wind instrument made from a tube with holes that are stopped by the fingers or keys, held vertically or horizontally. The flute is a key-less transverse instrument capable of producing two and a half octaves with the help of over-blowing and cross finger placement. This art form needs some amount of practice and involves a lot of technique.

A true flautist needs to know all the secrets and nuances of the trade. Right from holding posture & blowing techniques of flute, correct and strong flute embouchure, interpret music notation and perform multiple major scales.
